You’ve got to give a little, take a little,
and let your poor heart break a little.
That’s the story of, that’s the glory of love.
You’ve got to laugh a little, cry a little,
until the clouds roll by a little.
That’s the story of, that’s the glory of love.
These lyrics have been rolling about in my head quite a bit this weekend.
On Friday, in the middle of a perfectly sunny and fun afternoon, surrounded by family, literally moments after having giggled my head off while bouncing around the lake behind a boat (thanks, P2), I realized there are just 6 weeks until “move-in day” for Nick. Six. And I might have cried just a little.
Saturday, while enjoying a beautiful evening and sweet conversation with close friends, waiting for the fireworks to start, my mind wandered to the Outer Banks, and the fact that Elizabeth was missing from our group. I was feeling happy and I know she was happy where she was. Even still, I might have cried just a little.
And today, Sunday, I got to hug a sweet sweet friend who I’ve not seen in a long time and she asked about Elizabeth’s summer job, and she asked about Nick’s college plans and I cried just a little more. Through my tears, I laughed and said, “But it is all good – really, I’m so happy.” “Yes,” she said, kindly offering me a tissue, “I see that.”
Sunshowers? Leaks? Right about on cue, I guess.
I love your writing, Kim! You have a way of expressing JUST what I feel about my children too! As they grow, and become more of a friend than “my child” (though they are ALWAYS our children) the rewards are at least 10-fold! Hang on and in, girl! You are about to have some of your best years with those kids!
Love you tons, sweet lady!
